This is a great question, and one that comes up a TON in the free course. Honestly, practice is practice. All of it is *good*, and no matter what tool you're using, you're learning the do's and dont's of the basic strokes.
That being said, brush pens and pointed pens work pretty differently. So if you do want to try both, you'll just need to be really intentional about the practice for each. If you have enough time to dedicate to doing double the amount of practice, go for it! But if it means splitting your already precious practice time between two tools, you might not be getting quite enough time with each tool to master it.
